ISS 311 course after study abroad
International and Off Campus Programs (IOP) office is pleased to announce that we have developed a new one-credit course to help students who have studied abroad apply their experiences abroad into their future studies and careers. This new course, ISS 311, will be taught for the first time in the second half of Spring Semester 2025 starting on March 31st.
Students who studied abroad during Fall 2024 or J Term 2025 are invited to consider registering for ISS 311: Re-entry and Reflection after International Study (one credit hour). The registration process will be done using the Registrar’s office Add/Course Permission Form. Two sections of ISS 311 are available for the second seven-week portion of Spring Semester 2025, starting March 31st:
- Section 1: MW 8:30-9:45 am, Olin 208
- Section 2: MW 2:15-3:30 pm, Lindberg 201
Steve Duke, Director of IOP, will be the instructor for ISS 311 and I look forward to working with Augie students in the process of integrating your study abroad experiences into your personal and professional life and your development as a student. Three key learning goals for the course are to:
- Increase your intercultural competence and cross-cultural skills gained through studying away;
- Facilitate intellectual curiosity and critical thinking as you reflect on your study abroad experiences and how you can integrate those experiences into your personal life and academic experiences;
- Enhance your communication competence as you connect your international experiences to your career development, including how you communicate the impact of your international experience to potential employers and internship coordinators.
Students and faculty are invited to email Dr. Duke with any questions they may have. Dr. Duke has taught a similar course at a different institution and have found that students really enjoy the chance to reflect on their experiences abroad and begin to apply them toward their future careers and development as a student.
